Chantreylands Beagles -
Your puppy will need vaccinating at 8 and 10 weeks. The vaccinations will be given by your local vet. DO NOT let your puppy near any unknown dogs until the course is complete; it is advisable not to take your puppy on any walks or out of your garden until the course is complete.
Your puppy will need worming at 12 weeks then subsequently as advised by your vet. Tablets, paste or liquid can be obtained from your vet or local pet store. We use DRONTAL PUPPY WORMER.
DO NOT FORGET TO WORM YOUR PUPPY AT 10 WEEKS AND DO NOT WORM YOUR PUPPY BEFORE THE DATE STATED IN YOUR PUPPYS RECORD.
We also advise that you have your dog micro chipped. Micro chipping provides a permanent, inexpensive form of identification that cannot be lost, altered or removed. The process is quick and painless and can be performed by your vet when your puppy has their first vaccinations.
A tattoo is also a good way to identify your puppy, this is put on the inside of her thigh or ear, this will have your puppies KC registration number. This is a permanent way to ensure your dog is identifable if anything should happen.
The Control of Dogs Order 1992 mandates that any dog in a public place must wear a collar with the name and address (including postcode) of the owner (not th pets name) engraved or written on it, or engraved on a tag.
These are available to buy form the kennel club website: www.thekennelclub.org.uk or from any reputable pet store.
Pet insurance should be considered, as you never know when you might need it. Don’t forget to register your puppy in your own name using the Kennel Club Form. You will also receive six weeks free insurance by doing so.
All of the puppies have been well socialised with cats, children and other members of the family.
Beagle Training
Your Beagle puppy will need lots of exercise, a good diet and a certain level of discipline and training.
The best way to trian your beagle is to enroll into an obedience class, this way you can effectively learn how to train him. Obedience training will help teach your dog that you are the boss, and will provide you with the skills and confidence to train your dog with efficiency.
Housetraining your Beagle takes time and patience, but is something that needs to be taken care of right away. This means, on the very first day you bring your Beagle home, you need to let him know that he needs to do his business outside and that eliminating in your home will not be tolerated.

You will need to:
  1. Take him out every hour
  2. Take him out if he becomes excited or is well exercised or had play time
  3. Take him out before you go to bed
  4. Take him out as soon as you wake up
  5. Take him out after he eats or drinks
  6. Take him out anytime you think he may need to go
  7. Every time your Beagle eliminates outside, really praise and fuss him for it.

Dog cages or crates can be effective when house training your beagle. A dog should not soil its own sleeping area. Dog cages can also help to prevent destructive behaviour caused by being left alone.Although your puppy will probably cry at fisrt when out in the cage your beagle will come to regard the cage as its own home when she is left alone. At first leave the cage door open so that your puppy can go in and out as they please. Never leave a toliet area inside the cage and encourge your beagle to soil outside in your garden. Puppy training pads can be used to encourage your puppy to not soil on your carpet and prevent any accidents!! The ideal bedding for your puppy is Veterinary bedding. This bedding is fantastic as it is machine washable and will last you for years!! I find a harness the best way to take my beagles out for a walk as it stops them pulling and choking themselves!!They are relatively cheap to buy and will last you for ages!!Beagle Diet Sheet
The puppies are all fed on Eukanuba Puppy for medium breeds: This can be fed until your puppy is 12months old….... This Eukanuba diet delivers the optimal levels of protein, fat and carbohydrates to meet your puppy’s requirements. It provides all the important vitamins and minerals necessary for optimal growth. The puppies are all  fed three times a day with a mug full of food each time. The food can be supplemented with weetabix for example three weetabix in the morning and two feeds of Eukanuba later in the day. The weetabix should be soaked so it is soft. The Eukanuba also needs soaking with water before feeding to your puppy. If for any reason you want to change the food from Eukanuba do so gradually to prevent your puppy from getting an upset tummy, mix the foods together for two weeks to prevent this and slowly cut out the Eukanuba. I would recommend not feeding your puppy after 5pm if possible to prevent any accidents in the night!! If you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Animal Welfare Act 2006From 6 April 2007 (and in Wales from 27 March 2007), animal welfare law was improved.

Not only is it against the law to be cruel to an animal, you must also ensure that all the welfare needs of your animals are met.
What does the Animal Welfare Act do? It makes owners and keepers responsible for ensuring that the welfare needs of their animals are met.
These include the need: For a suitable environment (place to live)
  1. For a suitable diet
  2. To exhibit normal behaviour patterns
  3. To be housed with, or apart from, other animals (if applicable)
  4. To be protected from pain, injury, suf fering and disease
The law also increases to 16 the minimum age at which a person can buy an animal and prohibits giving animals as prizes to unaccompanied children under this age. Anyone who is cruel to an animal, or does not provide for its welfare needs, may be banned from owning animals, fined up to £20,000 and/or sent to prison.
